The Conference
SAIA will take another step towards professionalising the auctioneering industry when it hosts the “bigger-and-better” South African Auctioneering Conference at Sun City in March 2011.
Where the conference has focused primarily on the Annual General Meeting in the past, this year will see more emphasis being placed on educational and social activities.
Amendments to the Consumer Protection Act will be legislated shortly which will have a profound effect on the auctioneering industry. It is of extreme importance that auctioneers are aware of the impact that this will have on their businesses and the manner in which auctions are conducted in the future. A panel of experts in this legislation will be discussing the subject matter at length at the conference. Other topics of discussion will be the drafting of new Qualification Criteria for auctioneering as a profession and progress with regards to the regulation of the industry.
There will be plenty of social activities, allowing delegates, exhibitors and sponsors to interact, as well as to include your spouses and partners. These activities include a round of golf on the Gary Player Golf Course, Welcome and Gala dinners and the National Bid Calling competition, which SAIA hopes will become a most sought after title in the future amongst South Africa’s auctioneers.
We encourage all stakeholders ain the auctioneering industry to attend this event and support SAIA in its attempts to provide the industry with a professional conference and give you, the auctioneer, a stage from which your voice can be heard.
The SAIA Conference and AGM will be taking place on 30 January 2010 at the Misty Hills Hotel and Conference Centre in Muldersdrift.
The primary objectives of the event are to host the Annual General Meeting where members have the opportunity to discuss and vote on specific issues effecting the Institute; as well as provide an opportunity for stakeholders within the industry to listen to esteemed speakers such as Mr Juanito Damos, Chairperson of AIPSA, Mr Rael Levitt from the Alliance Group, Mr Ivor Bloementhal from Services SETA and a representative from the office of the Master of the High Court.
Topics that will be presented include the future of auctioneering both in South Africa and internationally, professionalism and regulation within the industry, insolvencies and the relationship between auctioneers and liquidators.
The 30th October 2009 saw the inaugural SAIA golf day held at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.
The SAIA Members supported the event which saw the launch of the SAIA Auction Portal website and after prize giving an auction of sporting memorabillia, the proceeds going to SAIA and charitable organisations.
